What an incredible day! The 5th Annual Pride in the Park 2025 event was a beautiful celebration of love, solidarity, and community. Thank you to everyone who showed up, stood proud, and shared in the joy — your energy made it unforgettable!
From the inspiring speakers and dazzling performances to the rainbow-filled dance off and heartfelt conversations, this event reminded us just how powerful it is to live authentically and support one another.
We are thankful for the support and advocacy of all the local electeds who attended and especially those who were part of the day’s program and spoke – CA Senator Christopher Cabaldon, US Congressman Mike Thompson, Vacaville City Councilmember Jeanette Wylie Jeanette Wylie, Dixon Mayor Steven C Bird, City of Vacaville Vice Mayor Sarah E Chapman, and Vacaville School Board Trustee Audra Orr. Your words and action continue to inspire us!

Every year BAQWA produces an anthology of members’ writing as a benefit for a Bay Area Queer charity
This year proceeds from sales of TOGETHER, the 2024-25 benefit anthology, go to the Solano County Pride Center, which provides support for LGBTQ+ people in the county, offers free HIV testing, and creates Queer Pride events in cities across the county. We hope BAQWA members will come read from the anthology at future SPC events, including the Holiday Dinner. Equality California
Right now, California lawmakers are deciding whether our priority LGBTQ+ sponsored bills will continue moving forward this year — or be stalled in the Appropriations Committees. Your voice can make a difference.
Here’s what’s at stake:
🚨 SB 59 – The Transgender Privacy Act: Strengthens confidentiality protections for transgender and nonbinary people seeking legal name or gender marker changes.
🚨 SB 418 – Access to Healthcare: Protects patients from healthcare discrimination and expands access to prescription hormone therapy.
🚨 SB 497 – Transgender State of Refuge: Safeguards sensitive medical data from being weaponized against transgender people.
🚨 SB 590 – Inclusive Paid Family Leave: Expands paid family leave to include chosen and extended family.
🚨 AB 82 – Health Data Privacy & Safety: Protects patients and providers of transgender healthcare from harassment and doxing.
🚨 AB 554 – The PrEPARE Act: Ensures continued access to HIV prevention medications like PrEP without cost sharing or insurance barriers.
🚨 AB 678 – Safe and Inclusive Housing: Develops affirming housing solutions for LGBTQ+ people experiencing homelessness.
🚨 AB 908 – LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Schools: Ensures school districts comply with the FAIR Education Act and adopt LGBTQ+ inclusive instructional materials.
🚨 AB 1084 – The Transgender Records Act: Streamlines the process for legal name and gender marker changes so people can access accurate IDs more quickly.
California has always led the way on LGBTQ+ equality. But as the Trump administration rolls back protections and fuels extremist attacks against our community, we must push our state leaders to hold the line and keep moving forward.
Will you add your name to our petition urging the Appropriations Committees to support these critical bills?
Together, we can make sure California continues to be a place where every LGBTQ+ person is safe, healthy, and fully included.
Thank you for your help,
—Craig
